Guide: How to Choose the Best Computer Repair Shop in Oxford

Not sure how to pick a computer repair shop in Oxford? With so many options, it’s important to choose one that’s reliable, affordable, and fast. At Computer Assistance, we’ve helped hundreds of Oxford locals with their tech issues, earning 400+ five-star Google reviews. Here’s our guide to help you make the right choice.

1. Check Reviews and Reputation

The first step in choosing a computer repair shop in Oxford is to check their reputation. Look for shops with high ratings and plenty of reviews – this shows they’re trusted by the community.

Focus on platforms like Google or Yell for authentic feedback.

Avoid shops with few or no reviews, as they may lack experience.

At Computer Assistance, we’re proud to have 400+ five-star Google reviews – more than any other local shop. Our customers in Cowley, Headington, and Summertown love our reliable service.
3. Look for Speed and Warranty

When your device breaks, you need it fixed fast. A good computer repair shop in Oxford should offer quick turnarounds and a warranty for peace of mind.

Check if they offer same-day repairs – waiting days isn’t ideal.

Ensure they provide a warranty on repairs to cover future issues.

4. Confirm the Range of Services

Elon Musk – Entrepreneur or Influencer?

Read how these guys are changing markets through Social Media influence.

Elon Musk is a name that has become synonymous with innovation, ambition, and controversy. As the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Company, Musk has established himself as one of the most influential figures in the business world. However, his impact extends beyond entrepreneurship, as he has also emerged as a prominent influencer in various domains. This article explores the dual role of Elon Musk as both an Influential figures or prominent influencer?, examining the factors that contribute to his success and the implications of his influence.

Elon Musk’s entrepreneurial journey began in the late 1990s when he co-founded Zip2, a software company that provided business directories and maps for newspapers. This venture laid the foundation for his subsequent successes. Musk went on to co-found X.com, an online payment company that eventually became PayPal and was acquired by eBay for $1.5 billion. This early triumph showcased Musk’s ability to identify and capitalize on emerging trends in the tech industry.

Following the sale of PayPal, Musk set his sights on the automotive industry. In 2004, he founded Tesla Motors with the goal of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy. Despite facing numerous challenges, including scepticism from industry experts and financial difficulties, Musk persevered and transformed Tesla into a leading electric vehicle manufacturer. Today, Tesla is valued at over $800 billion, making it one of the most valuable companies in the world.

In addition to Tesla, Musk founded SpaceX in 2002 with the aim of reducing the cost of space exploration and eventually colonising Mars. SpaceX has achieved several significant milestones, including becoming the first privately funded company to send a spacecraft to the International Space Station. Musk’s vision for SpaceX extends beyond space travel, as he envisions a future where humans become a multi-planetary species

While Elon Musk’s entrepreneurial ventures have garnered significant attention, his influence extends beyond the business world. With over 60 million followers on Twitter (X), Musk has a massive platform to share his thoughts and ideas. His tweets have the power to move markets, influence public opinion, and shape conversations on a global scale.

Musk’s influence was evident in the case of GameStop, a struggling video game retailer that experienced a sudden surge in stock price due to a Reddit-fuelled buying frenzy. Musk’s tweet mentioning GameStop caused the stock to soar even higher, amplifying the impact of the online movement. This incident highlighted Musk’s ability to mobilise his followers and create real-world consequences.

Furthermore, Musk’s influence extends to the cryptocurrency market. His tweets about cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Dogecoin have caused significant price fluctuations, leading some to question the stability and reliability of the market. Musk’s ability to sway public sentiment through social media has raised concerns about the potential risks associated with his influence.

The Implications

Elon Musk’s dual role as an entrepreneur and influencer raises important questions about the responsibilities and consequences of his actions. While his influence has undoubtedly contributed to the success of his ventures, it also comes with potential drawbacks.

On one hand, Musk’s ability to mobilise his followers and shape public opinion can be seen as a positive force for change. His advocacy for renewable energy and sustainable transportation has helped raise awareness and drive innovation in these areas. Additionally, his influence has inspired a new generation of entrepreneurs and innovators to pursue ambitious goals.

On the other hand, Musk’s influence can also be seen as a double-edged sword. His tweets have the power to manipulate markets and create volatility, potentially harming investors and destabilising industries. Moreover, his controversial statements and behaviour have drawn criticism and raised concerns about his leadership style and decision-making process.

Elon Musk’s journey as both an entrepreneur and an influencer are a testament to his ambition, vision, and ability to captivate the public’s attention. His success in building groundbreaking companies and his influence on social media have made him a polarising figure. While his impact is undeniable, it is essential to critically evaluate the implications of his actions and consider the potential risks associated with his influence. As Musk continues to push the boundaries of innovation and shape the future, the world will be watching closely to see how his entrepreneurial and influential endeavours unfold.

Elon Musk – Entrepreneur or Influencer?

We recently got our Hands on Starlink, the latest Satellite Network solution from Elon Musk. Though we found it to be sub-standard for our needs, check our review and test of the device here:

Starlink is a satellite internet service offered by SpaceX that aims to provide broadband access to remote and rural areas. Reviews of Starlink are mixed, with some praising the service for delivering on its promises of high speeds and easy setup, while others criticize it for being expensive and still short of its potential. A review by PCMag calls Starlink a “godsend for country living” and gives it an Editors’ Choice award, while a review by Tom’s Guide finds the service wanting despite its potential. The review methodology of Reviews.org includes internet speed performance, customer service reports, and equipment quality and issues. A review by The Verge acknowledges the technical achievement of Starlink but cautions against overhyping its potential. Overall, it seems that Starlink is a good option for those who need it and have service available, but it may not be for everyone due to its cost and limitations.

Basic Authentication is still used by many companies for Exchange Online. The login process is based on usernames and passwords, which can be vulnerable to brute force attacks, password spray attacks, etc. The longer you continue to use Basic Authentication, the greater the risk of an attack.[

Microsoft will disable Basic Authentication in its global multi-tenant service as of October 1, 2022. Each tenant is processed in random order. An alert and a note will appear on the Service Health Dashboard seven days prior to the change.

When basic authentication is turned off for one of the affected protocols, users will not be able to connect. An HTTP 401 error message will appear with a bad username or password error. That’s not something you want users to see.

“What should I do?”

A user who is already signed in to another Microsoft 365 app, such as Teams, will likely not see any authentication prompts since they are already verified. In the tenant, Microsoft disables Basic Authentication for MAPI/RPC, so it enables this setting for customers.

As soon as Basic Authentication is disabled, Microsoft wants Outlook to be able to connect to Modern Authentication. However, Outlook does not support OAuth with POP3 or IMAP. If you want to use POP and IMAP with a client app, you will need another app.

Outlook: Verify that Outlook for Windows is up to date, has the correct registry keys, and, most importantly, that the Enable switch is set to True for the entire tenant. Without that setting, Outlook does not use Modern Authentication.

POP/IMAP: Both POP and IMAP support OAuth for interactive applications, and Microsoft is rolling out support for non-interactive flows.

EWS apps: EWS only supports app access, and you can control what an app can access with Application Access Policies. The code for apps that use EWS with Basic Authentication must be changed. The latest version of many partner apps supports Modern Authentication; you just need to adjust your configuration. Do that as soon as possible!

Exchange ActiveSync: All native apps on up-to-date devices support Modern Authentication, but many users use the Basic Authentication method. If you’re using an MDM/MAM solution, use it to deploy new profiles. Delete the account and add it again from the device if you don’t have MDM/MAM, and it will automatically transition to Modern Authentication.

Reporting Web Services: Support for OAuth has already been rolled out (completed at the end of May). Basic Authentication will be disabled as of October 1.

With 3D Print becoming more and more prevalent, there are more reasons to start 3D printing for yourself or your business.

3D printing is an additive process whereby layers of material are built up to create a 3D part. This is the opposite of subtractive manufacturing processes, where a final design is cut from a larger block of material.

Here at Computer Assistance, we use our 3D printer extensively to give you a bit of our personal touch and to save the planet by removing emissions it takes for certain items to be delivered to us then to you. We currently use a Creatality CP-01 to do all our printing, with filaments changing on a case-by-case basis.

We have made a plethora of components that will fit nicely in any PC build or even cases for other smart devices such as a raspberry pi case. Now 3D print may have jumped leaps and bounds in recent years but it still only part of the manufacture process, therefore should not be relied on wholly as a one stop for all manufacturing process.

Pros & Cons

There are many positives of owning and operating a 3D printer in your workplace such as saving money from avoiding outsourcing and the surcharges that come from that. It’s an eco-friendlier way of producing a product that would normally have to travel great distances in turn creating large emissions. It can also be used an in-house solution to make little 3D parts that would otherwise be hard to come by in the general market.

There are negatives to this process, as 3D Print does have its own costs like the filament which can set you back depending on what filament it is you are wanting, it can also take a long time if working on something intricate or large which can slow down the whole manufacturing process. But most of the negatives are on a case-by-case basis and rely on a different variables such as filament type, brand and age of the 3D Printer.

What is a Cloud based phone system (PBX)?

A cloud-based phone system is one that is delivered through the internet, opposed to the standard phone line in which many people are used to. Sometimes cloud phone services are referred to as VoIP phones but the principal is the same; a phone system provided to a business using an internet connection. Studies show this approach to unlock Real Business Benefits.

Many businesses have already switching to a cloud-based phone system and are reaping the benefits, however many smaller businesses are only just catching on. Some businesses simply do not understand the way in which a cloud phone service could benefit them as whole – which this blog will go into shortly – and others are too reliant on traditional on-site phone hardware as that is what they are used to. If you’re a business that has yet to switch over to a cloud phone system or are someone who is thinking about taking the step away from traditional phone lines, these benefits could be of interest

Why Choose a Cloud-Based Phone System?

There are a tonne of great benefits to choosing a cloud-based phone system, many of which are overlooked. These include:

Cloud phone systems can be accessed from anywhere

As technology develops more and more people are beginning to work remotely, and business can be conducted from anywhere. Cloud phone systems are relatively mobile, which means employees can login from anywhere and use the phone as they would if they were in the office. Plus, if a business has more than one working location both offices can be set up using the same system and so everything is intertwined and recorded together.

Data can be analysed with ease

Every so often a business may need to take a look back at its call records and this can be a problem when using a standard phone. However, internet based phone systems store all the important data from calls such as customer details and record the call itself; this is ideal for training and checking back for missed information.

Cloud phone systems can be used with mobile phones

Cloud phone system are not just for phones in the office and can actually be installed on staff mobile phones. By integrating the system with an employee’s mobile phone they will be able to work as efficiently as if they were in the office at their desk, using the same phone system as everyone else.

Cloud-based phone systems can cut down costs

Many businesses find that they actually save money by switching for a cloud-based phone system as monthly service costs, repair costs and individual phone call rates are reduced. Though the initial installation of a cloud phone service may be a financial outlay, over time many businesses find that their monthly spend on phone bills and maintenance decreases.

When it comes to having cloud phone services installed it is important to choose a company that know what they’re doing. Poorly set up cloud-based phone systems will not work to their full potential and problems can arise. Choosing experts in this field will leave you safe in the knowledge that your phone system is ready to use from the get-go.
